National Seniors Australia conducted research into older people and the cost of living to find out who is most affected.

Summary

There is great diversity in the ways older people are experiencing the increasing price of most goods and services they need to live their lives. National Seniors Australia partnered with  Challenger to investigate how pressures from the cost of living are affecting the lifestyle, retirement finances and the financial security of people aged 50-plus living in Australia.

This investigative snapshot highlights findings from a 2023 survey question about the impact of recent cost of living increases on respondents' lifestyle including:

  • Low or high income households
  • Renters vs Mortgage Payers vs Home Owners
  • Singles and Big Households vs Couples
  • Rural, Remote and Metro
  • 50 Years of age vs 60 plus
