National Seniors Australia is calling for a fair and transparent approach to setting deeming rates.

National Seniors Australia is calling for an increase in the amount that can be gifted to charity and younger generations under Age Pension means test rules.

We are calling for a change to pension payment rules to give Health Care and Social Assistance sector workers a greater incentive to continue working longer.

A universal pension would give everyone a basic pension. It would eliminate means testing, doing away with deeming and taper rates, which complicate retirement planning of millions of retirees.

Policy Briefing: Fair and transparent deeming rates

Deeming rates affect pension rates, concession eligibility and aged care contributions. We are calling for a further 12 month freeze on deeming rates from 1 July 2024 and for government to use this time to review and reset the method used to set deeming rates so they are fair and transparent.
